Games and Social Media

Overview
Overview
Vimlark Games initially emerged as a passion project, born out of my desire to delve into the intricacies of interactive designing by developing video games. This venture served as a practical avenue to deepen my understanding of user experience (UX), refining my skills not only in game development but also in video editing and storytelling. It started as a creative outlet, allowing me to explore the realms of game design while honing my multimedia storytelling abilities.

The trajectory of Vimlark Games took an unexpected turn during the early days of the pandemic when I found myself furloughed from my job. Capitalizing on the newfound free time, I seized the opportunity to expand my creative endeavors. This period became a prolific phase where I not only created more games but also delved into video production and initiated live streaming. Engaging with the audience I had cultivated in real time added a dynamic layer to my creative process.

As my subscriber base and view counts experienced substantial growth, sponsors took notice and approached me to integrate their products into my videos. This, coupled with advertising revenue from YouTube videos and paid subscriptions on Twitch.tv, marked a pivotal shift. It enabled me to transition Vimlark Games from a side hobby to my sole project for the subsequent two years.
During this dedicated period, I successfully built a committed audience by sharing my insights, with a specific focus on UX design. I utilized game jams as a vehicle to explore innovative ways for designers to create meaningful engagement with their users. For those unfamiliar, game jams are akin to hackathons in the realm of game design. Participants receive a time limit and thematic constraints, prompting them to create within these parameters. Leveraging my emphasis on player engagement, I consistently achieved high rankings and even secured victory in the widely acclaimed GMTK Jam, boasting over 5,600 entries.

The success of Vimlark Games not only solidified my presence in the online game design community but also validated the impact of a focused approach to UX in game development. The journey from a side hobby to a thriving project underscored the potential for creative exploration, community building, and meaningful engagement within the ever-evolving landscape of digital content creation.
